Our Happy Kitchen

Last weekend was spent doing fun projects around the house.  At least I thought it was fun, I’m not sure that Seth thought they were as fun, especially since I start out by telling him I can do it myself and don’t need help, then inevitably he becomes foreman on the project.

Anyway, we have this corner in our kitchen where the window and open shelving meets.

(please excuse the mess)

I really felt like we needed a pop of color and a great window treatment.  So, I set out to find some material to make a roman shade and decided to take an accent color from the material to paint the back of the shelves.

Here's the link to the directions for the roman shade.  In full disclosure, it was harder than it looks here.  I don’t have a sewing machine and the Stitch Witch didn’t feel like bonding to this particular fabric.  Not to mention getting the measurements for the tabs exactly right so that the folds fell exactly right.  In the end it turned out great, but it wasn’t without its challenges.

I painted the shelf with a color called kiwi splash.  It’s a really bold green.  Again, in the interest of full disclosure, this took me way longer than I originally anticipated.  But, I really love the finished product.
