Lost in a Blue Glaze

Seth and I moved in together about two months ago and it was interesting to say the least.  Not in a bad way—just in a co-habituating with a partner for the first time kind of way.  We had to sort through a ton of furniture and a few headaches to create a livable space that is still a work in progress.

Anyway, our “family room” is where all the left over furniture came to die, I mean found a home. On top of that, the lay out of the room is super awkward.  So, this is what we ended up putting the (huge) TV on…

It was in Seth’s Kitchen, but is originally an old dresser.  The drawers inside are perfect for all of the electronics and it is a neat and tidy throne for the monster.

But, I was dying to get my hands on it, re-do it, and add a little vavoom to the room.  I finally had some time to play this weekend and armed with some advise from two of my favorite blogs: Vintage Revivals and All Things Thrifty—I hit the yard with some old clothes and a drop cloth.

First, I primed it:

Then I spray painted it:

Then I tinted a glaze black and glazed it to give that aged look and it looks great in the room!

  1. Awesome way to add some color!! This gave me a great idea for this old dresser I have. Did you sand it at all??

  2. Thank you!! I didn't sand it (just used two coats of Kilz Spray Primer), but in retrospect, I should have sanded first...the paint would have gone on much smoother.
